The international community is losing patience with the main parties to the peace agreement for failing to fully implement the deal, the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission Chairman has said.
The JMEC Chairperson, Festus Mogae, expressed the concern during the opening of the seventh meeting of the commission this morning.
He says both the government and the SPLM in Opposition have continued to violate the ceasefire in some parts of the country.
The JMEC also noted that the two parties have failed to execute the transitional security arrangements in time, and also failed to expedite the formation of the government of national unity.
It has been over a month since the opposition leader, Dr Riek Machar, was expected in Juba to take up his position as the First Vice President, following his appointment. But he is yet to come.
“Let me be frank and tell you that the patience of the international community, as is my own, is being tested,” Mr Mogae said.
“Now is the time to prove that the commitments that have been repeatedly made by the parties are genuine and sincere.”
The meeting will receive reports on the progress made by the government and the opposition in the implementation of the transitional security arrangements for Juba.
It will also receive reports from the ceasefire committee about its investigation into ceasefire violations and determine if SPLM in opposition forces are present in the Equatoria and the Bahr El Ghazal regions.
Members of other political parties, representatives from civil society organizations, and the diplomatic corps are attending the meeting.
Mr. Mogae says the meeting will also discuss and suggest what actions on economic reforms can be taken to address the situation.
