The Minister of Interior has revealed that 11,000 “ghost” names exist in the police payroll.

“A thousand others have been uncovered as an investigation into the payroll of the police service continues,” Hon. Aleu Ayeny Aleu told reporters yesterday.

Hon. Aleu said paying ghost police officers has affected service delivery in the police force.

“We’ve made a decision to knock out them out, and this is going to give the department of police extra money – about thirty million, which we are going to ask the ministry of Finance to relocate to other service sectors.”

Hon. Aleu instructed all departments in his ministries to get rid of those who are not employees of the ministry but are in the pay roll system.

He encouraged other government institutions to do the same in order to allow more money go into services for the citizens.
