The U.S government says more sanctions will be imposed on some individuals from the government and the SPLM-SPLA in Opposition if the two warring parties do not stop fighting.

Speaking to Eye Radio, the US Ambassador to South Sudan, Dr. Susan Page, said the sanctions announced this week was a first step if the war does not stop.

“It is a first step. There may be others who will be listed if the fighting continues. And we are using this sanction as one tool not a final one. But as one tool to demonstrate the seriousness in which the United State Government takes these crimes.” Ambassador Page said.

This week, the US sanctioned two generals, one from the Government and the other from the SPLA in Opposition as being an obstacle to peace in South Sudan.
