Vice President James Wani Igga has urged women to fight illiteracy.
Majority of the South Sudanese who can’t read or write are women, according to UN estimates.
More than 70 percent of the people in the country are illiterate.
Mr Igga says the government is setting up projects to fight illiteracy among women.
“We must combat this illiteracy. It is one of our visions so that we change the situation of women,” said the VP. “But our women need to move together to do this.”
Mr. Igga said the Government will also empower women economically.
He says this empowerment will include giving women access loans.
“Economically we must empower the women, we must give our women economic powers so that there is income generating activities – things that can bring income for women,” he added.
