The National Ministry of Health has announced plans to urgently deploy a medical response team to Jonglei State following a cholera outbreak in parts of Duk County.

Last week, authorities in Duk County reported a renewed cholera outbreak among internally displaced people in the area.

Yar Manyuon, the Director for Preventive Health Services and Emergency Response at the Ministry of Health, said the ministry and its partners held an emergency meeting earlier in the day to address the outbreak.

She said the response team will support surveillance, case management, and coordination efforts in the affected counties as the ministry works to contain the spread of the disease.

Cholera remains a recurring public health threat in South Sudan, particularly in areas affected by flooding, displacement, and limited access to clean water and sanitation.
