Gov’t suspends contruction of Pibor-Central Equatoria road

The Greater Administration Area has questioned the government for suspending the construction of a road linking the area with Central Equatoria State.

Last week, the Council of Ministers called off the construction of the road on ground that it passes through the Buma National Park.

The decision of the Council came days after officials from the Pibor Administration announced that 25 kilometers of the road have been cleared.

Joseph Lilimoi is the Deputy Chief for Administration and Finance.

He told Eye Radio that the road would attract tourists to the park and improve trade relations between Central Equatoria and Pibor.

He says they are waiting for an official notification on the cancellation.

“The national government should confirm this. If it is like that, we need also to know the reason. This is a national government and they are responsible for all the country and the issue of development is important for them also in Greater Pibor.” He said.

Mr Lolimoi said people went on strike in Pibor town on Tuesday over the suspension of the 38 kilometer road.

The construction started last month.
