The office of the President says the President and the Cabinet are reviewing the executive order signed by U.S. President Barack Obama that threatens sanctions against anyone who incites or commits violence in South Sudan.
On Thursday President Obama signed an executive order clearing the way for sanctions on individuals and entities involved in fueling violence and obstructing the peace process in South Sudan.
The order grants the U.S. the ability to sanction individuals who have committed human rights abuses in South Sudan.
A statement from the White House also said those who target United Nations peace-keepers in South Sudan, run the risk of sanctions.
The Press Secretary in the office of the President, Ateny Wek Ateny, said President Kiir and the Council of Ministers are still studying the executive order and will respond later.
The US must sanction the aforementioned individuals so as to speed the will of the people for peace to prevail regardless of who is in power or not period.
