Gov’t won’t respond to IGAD ‘statement in the air’ – Makuei

The government says it will not respond to IGAD envoys on the calls to suspend the republican order creating more states.

IGAD special envoys for South Sudan said in a statement this week that the order splitting the ten states is against the peace agreement.

They urged the government to suspend the order until the formation of a transitional government of national unity.

The memo was addressed to the leaders of the parties to the agreement.

Press statement in the air’

However, the minister of Information and Broadcasting, Michael Makuei, told Eye Radio that the envoys did not address their concerns officially to the government.

“These are people who do not know what they are talking about. So we don’t need to respond to them because they should have written to us; not to issue a press statement in the air,” Mr Makuei said.

“You must have a place where you direct your whatever opinion.”

Some members of the international community including, the Troika and the European Union have called for suspending the order.
