Gov’t announces 1,000 pound fine for those who burn plastics

The Minister of Environment has announced a new fine of more than 1,000 pounds for those who burn plastic bottles.

Deng Deng Hoc says burning plastics could cause lung cancer and worsens the condition of people suffering from asthma.

He says the punishment applies to government institutions, businesses, and individuals in order to protect the public from what he calls dangerous activities.

“If it is a government institution and you burn plastic in front of your office or anywhere of your office we will also impose the 1,000 pound fine,” Mr Hoc stated.

“If it is a business, we will also impose the same. So if you are burning waste in front of your shop including plastic, the same fine of 1,000 will apply to you.”

Mr. Deng says custom officers have also been directed to confiscate plastic bags being imported to the country.
