The Governor of Western Equatoria State, Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa, has directed the newly appointed Minister of General Education and Instruction to review the state’s education system and improve learning services.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of new state officials in Yambio on Friday, Governor Badagbu said the education sector has been declining and requires urgent action.

He instructed Education Minister Patrick Riruyo to assess the condition of schools across the state, identify challenges affecting the sector and work on improving education services.

The governor also called for the reopening of schools in areas where displaced families are returning, including Tombura, Nagero, Mundri East and Mundri West, saying children should have access to education.

Governor Badagbu said funds have been secured to support the education sector for one month and directed the ministry to verify which schools are operating and which remain closed.

He also called for increased investment in teacher training and urged the ministry to restore public confidence in the education system by improving the quality of teaching and learning.
