Governor Koang names new caretaker cabinet, county commissioners

The Governor of Upper Nile State, James Koang Chuol, has reconstituted the state government by appointing a caretaker cabinet, commissioners for the state’s 13 counties and other officials.

The appointments follow the dissolution of the national and state governments last month.

According to a gubernatorial order issued today, Governor Koang appointed new caretaker ministers, county commissioners and officials for the Malakal Municipal Council.

The caretaker ministers include Philip Amum Amon, Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement; Paul Kur Ajang, Minister of Information and Communications; and Lam Amos Agook, Minister of Finance, Planning and Investment.

Others are Angok Deng Kuol, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry; Nyanuer William Nyuon, Minister of Health; Luke Sadalla Deng, Minister of General Education and Instruction; and Chuol Dep Kier, Minister of Roads, Bridges and Physical Infrastructure.

For the counties, Governor Koang appointed Awer Juac Kejok as commissioner for Akoka County, Denis Deng Pur for Baliet County, and Onok Okuch Lual for Fashoda County.

He also appointed James Daud Dana for Maban County, John Arop Amum for Makal County, Beach Banang Yoah for Maiwut County, and Zakaria Lwanyo Amum for Manyo County.

Other appointments include Adway Akech Yuot as commissioner for Melut County, John Miyieny Lual for Longechuk County, James Gatwech Jock for Nasir County, James Obur Aywok for Panyikang County, Ding Deng Lueth for Renk County, and Justin Nhial Batoang for Ulang County.

Meanwhile, the order relieves Paul Biel Pal of his position as Upper Nile State Coordinator in Juba.

For the Malakal City Council, Governor Koang appointed Tor Riam Riek as Mayor and Amel Ding Ayier as Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance, while Bolis Chan Amol becomes Deputy Mayor for Land Affairs.

The Governor also appointed Lorpiny Akol Tongok as Chairperson of the State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC).

The order takes effect on the date of its signature by the Caretaker Governor.
