A law to promote girl child education Central Equatoria has been signed by the state governor.
The Bill was developed with support from Oxfam and Community Empowerment for Progress.
Governor Clement Wani says 75% of children at school are boys and 25% are girls.
“We have to make sure that a girl is given her right to education from primary to senior secondary school then up to university,” said Governor Wani.
“So, honorable speaker sir, make sure that this act is properly implemented and make enlightenment to the people.”
Eye Radio spoke to some women and this is what they have to say concerning the law.
“I’m so proud that this bill has been assented into law which it will give way forward for girls to have their full education because when you educate a girl, you have educated a nation,” said a parent.
Mr Konga says the six counties in the state were consulted in drafting the law.
“When we promote that act, it will make our girls get educated and promote the women,” said another woman.
