Some food-poisoning victims discharged

The SPLA says most of the soldiers that were hospitalized with suspected food poisoning in Wau have been discharged.

The foodborne involving 60 soldiers left two people dead – a commander and a private. The men died upon reaching the hospital. They suffered diarrhea, according to the authorities.

The rest of the victims were hospitalized at health facilities in the area, including a military hospital.

The soldiers were attending a three-day workshop on human rights at Grinti area.

“The situation now has normalized. We don’t see any life threating issue as per now,” said Col Santo Domic, deputy spokesperson.

However, he could not say how many people were discharged.

Col. Domic added that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Five people, most of whom are workers of the hotel that was contracted to provide meals during the workshop, have been implicated in the suspected food poisoning incident.
