Police have arrested five suspected robbers, and shot two of them in the legs, during two attempted robbery incidents at Gumbo Sherikat on Saturday evening, in the eastern part of the capital Juba.

Police Spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin said two men have attempted to break into a family residence in the area.

The burglars then fled for their lives, after spotting the police nearby.

But police officers at the scene opened fire and wounded the two suspected robbers in their legs.

“When the robbers started running away, they were fired on, and then the two got shot in the leg. They were escorted to the hospital and a case was opened. It is now being investigated,” said General Justin.

The police official said one of the culprits has been identified as an armed soldier.

In a similar incident in the same area, three men have also been arrested for having robbed a motorcycle at 5 PM in the same residential area.

“Three people managed to rob a boda-boda from one of the riders. But they managed to follow him when the case was reported to the police, and the Bod-boda has been recovered,” said the official.
