FDs react to appointment of 28 governors

The Former Detainees say they are disappointed by the implementation of the 28-state decision.

President Kiir split the 10 states into 28 in October. And last week, he named the governors of the states. They were sworn-in today.

In a press statement, the leader of the former detainees, Deng Alor Kuol, says the appointment of the governors is contrary to the transitional constitution and the August peace agreement.

The group called upon President Kiir to ‘honor his commitment to implement the peace agreement in good faith’.

However, while addressing the governors today, President Kiir said the appointment of the 28 governors is not a violation of the peace agreement.

He stated that the creation of states was a popular demand.
