United Nations is hosting a workshop on how to harvest rain water.
The UN hopes to build resilience and reduce conflict in the communities of Eastern Equatoria, western Equatoria and lakes states.
The workshop will also enable technical committees from the states to investigate how water harvesting may reduce conflict.
“The main objective of this workshop was to really see and access the effectiveness of water harvesting especially hafirs that have been built in different parts of South Sudan,” said Ali Said, chief technical advisor for Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.
The Hafir is an underground reservoir designed for storing rain water carried by streams and used for domestic water supply and for agricultural purposes in rural areas, mostly in the Sudan.
The workshop is taking place in Juba. It ends on Friday.
