The National Elections Commission said it has already prepared elections calendar as it awaits outstanding matters to be addressed before embarking on pre-elections activities.

George Lemi, the commission’s spokesperson said the electoral institution will hold a meeting before making the calendar public.

Lemi said the election commission has also submitted its proposed budget and activities to the transitional government.

“We have submitted the elections budget to the government as well as the elections activities we have already submitted to the government,” he told Eye Radio on Tuesday.

He said once the elections calendar is released, the commission will declare when the civic education and voter registration will commence.

“We have already prepared the elections calendar and it will be released to the public. When elections calendar is released, that will be the time we will declare when the civic and voter education will commence.”

On Sunday, Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga said all the political parties in South Sudan are ready for the December 2024 elections except one group which he declined to name.

The SPLM under President Salva Kiir, the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and Other Political Parties (OPP) have confirmed their participation in this year’s general election.

But the SPLM-In Opposition expressed reservations over the conduct of general elections, citing the unimplemented key provisions of the 2018 peace deal.
