Eastern Equatoria’s state governor has warned new police graduates in Torit against taking part in political upheaval.
Over two hundred police officers graduated from Himodonge Training Center on Saturday.
Governor Louis Lobong told the new recruits that their task is to uphold law and order.
He urged them to remain neutral and serve all members of the public equally:
“I believe you understand your role as police officers; you are to provide security to the citizens and their properties, you are to impose law and protect the Constitution, you are to apprehend criminals- those that steal people’s properties and even criminals who want to violate the Constitution and destroy democracy,” said Mr Lobong.
“You are being graduated at a time when there are people who want to destabilize the government. This is also going to be your work to maintain law.”
Governor Lobong said the police officers will be deployed to areas in the state other than their area of origin from, in a bid to promote unity.
The police officers underwent six months’ training at Himodonge training Center in Torit.
