EES assembly summons ministers over employees’ salary arrears

Author : | Published: Thursday, May 15, 2014

Three state Ministers were summoned yesterday by the Eastern Equatoria Legislative Assembly over delay in the payment of salary and allowance to civil servants in the state.

The Minister of Health, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Local Government appeared before the assembly members to respond to claims by civil servants that they have not been paid for 3 months.

The state Minister of Health, Margaret Itto told the assembly members that the responsibility of paying state allowances was given to the Crisis Management Committee.

The Crisis Management Committee was recently dissolved by the President.

“First, this allowance which was paid by the Crisis Management Committee is something that we had not planned for,” she argued. “The money was never shared with the state Ministry of Finance; it’s not in our budget.”

Margaret Itto said civil servants will receive their 2 months salaries from their respective Ministries soon.

She said the salary will not include allowances.

The Eastern Equatoria state Legislative Assembly has formed a committee to address the issue.
