Eastern Equatoria state government has warned its citizens against illegal logging. The call comes amidst increased tree cutting for charcoal in the state. The state minister of Information, Felix Otudwa, who was speaking to Eye Radio, said all citizens of South Sudan need to be sensitized on the dangers of tree cutting.
Majority of populations in the country depend on trees for construction. Environmentalists fear that if this practice continues, some species of trees will go extinct in South Sudan. Excessive logging also causes desertification.
