Authorities in Bor County in Jonglei State say a soldier who appeared in a viral video threatening a woman at gunpoint has been arrested and placed under investigation.

Bor County Commissioner Samuel Ateny Pech confirmed the arrest in an interview with Eye Radio, saying the soldier was detained by National Security officers after he appeared in the video while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

“Yes, he is arrested. I can even send you the video where he apologized. He is now under arrest and is in the prison of the National Security. The leadership has also released an apology to the family and to the entire population of Bor.”

Commissioner Ateny said the soldier’s apology does not exempt him from accountability.

“He has to be investigated because he has already tarnished the image of the government and the forces. Yes, he apologized, but the act was done under the influence of alcohol.”

The viral video, which spread widely on social media earlier this week, showed an armed soldier confronting a woman in Bor town, sparking public outrage and calls for disciplinary action.
