A new drug to fight malaria

The Ministry of Health has announced its distributing a new malaria drug and going tighten up quality control of drugs from abroad,

The Department of Malaria Program said it has purchased a new drug known as artisunate, which is effective in fighting malaria.

This follows World Malaria Day on Friday.

The Director of anti-malaria program in the National Ministry of Health, Dr. Harriet Akelo Pasquale, told Eye Radio that the drug will be distributed after health workers are trained in how to use it.

Dr. Harriet also said the Ministry has established mini laboratories for quality control at the borders for testing drugs entering the country from abroad.

“Yes we have control over drugs that enter South Sudan. We have some mini labs on the borders and officials who are stationed at the border test any type of drugs that enter the country.”

Dr. Harriet said that the government is distributing free malaria drugs to health facilities in the country in a bid to help fight the disease.
