The US government has expressed disappointment over the delay of the peace partners in South Sudan to form a transitional government.
It says there have been signicant accomplishments in implementing the agreement but notes that there have been also several delays.
“Well, there have been some significant accomplishments in implementing the agreement. There also have been several delays [moving] forward,” the Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Donald Booth told Eye Radio from Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.
“Obviously, the US is disappointed”
However, he says the US Government will continue to working with all “parties in South Sudan” in making efforts to ensure that the implementation of the agreement on the resolution of the conflict succeeds.
Mr Donald says the actions of the leaders on both sides will determine what action the UN Security Council will take in regards to the sanctions recommened by its panel of experts.
The experts said in an annual report that President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar maintained command responsibility and are to blame for the atrocities committed in the conflict.
Mr Donald says the two leaders should agree on the way forward in implementing the peace agreement, particularly to reaching a consensus on the number of states.
” So, again we urge the leaders of South Sudan to move forward quickly to implement the agreement, to overcome their differences, to continue to make the compromises needed so that the people of South Sudan can get what they really want, which is peace and return to rebuilding of their lives,” said Mr. Booth.
