The Deputy Mayor of Juba City for Environment acknowledged on Tuesday that the city’s state of cleanliness was poor.

Emmanuel Juma directed the quarter council administrators and the garbage collection companies to ensure the city was clean.

He made the remarks during the welcoming ceremony of the new leadership of the Juba City Council at Kator Quarter Council on Tuesday, October 24.

The Deputy Mayor of Juba City for Environment pointed out that it is the responsibility of the institution to ensure the environment is clean.

Juma also warned against dumping garbage along the main roads in the city.

He said it is the responsibility of the institution to ensure the environment is clean.

“Juba is dirty, Juba is dirty that’s why we want you to cooperate with the quarter councils to sensitize people in all the residential areas that garbage should not be dumped on the main road sides [tarmac roads],” Juma said.

“Dumping of garbage is a big challenge to us all, including local council administrators, let’s try to change the environment in Juba, let the face of Juba be good,” he said.

“We don’t want people to dump garbage on the tarmac roads, this is your responsibility as the quarter council and the garbage collection companies and this is very important.”

Weeks ago, Central Equatoria Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony directed the new Juba mayor to clean the city, open streets, and sympathize with traders by not locking their shops if they are unable to pay taxes.

The governor asked Mayor Flora to address the issue of garbage dumping on main roads.

Adil said the city must be swept clean of every dirt as it reflects the country’s international image.
