There is a rise killings and harassment in the area, Yei-based civil society group, the Community Empowerment for Rehabilitation and Development Organization, has told Eye Radio.

It says most of these occur at night in the residential areas in the town.

The latest incident involved a pastor. Unidentified assailants set his house ablaze.

The Executive Director of CEFORD, Mawa George Lazarus, appealed to security agencies in the county to strengthen surveillance.

“Something that happens like that shows that there is need for more security support for the citizens and the protection of the citizens is one of the most important things,” Mr Lazarus said.

The police commissioner in the county, Jeremiah Maker, says the public should provide information to the police in cases of security threats.

Mr. Maker says the situation in Yei is normal.
