Cholera kills 1 in Juba

One person has died and 36 cases have been reported in new cholera infections that started in May in Juba, the Ministry of Health has announced.

The Director General for Preventive Service, Dr John Rumunu, says an outbreak has not been declared because the cases are still under investigation.

He says majority of the cases came from Kator, Giada and Khor William.

Dr Rumunu advises people with symptoms of cholera to report to Juba Teaching Hospital.

The symptoms include vomiting and watery diarrhea. Dr Rumunu urges the people to call 1,144 in case of any suspected case.

“The Ministry of Health assures the public that the reported cases are under intensive case management and investigation at the Juba Teaching Hospital and there should be no panic in the community,” Dr Rumunu told Eye Radio.

Cholera is prevented by maintaining proper hygiene.
