21 cases of cholera have been identified in Kajo-Keji County over the last one week, an official has said.
Cases of the epidemic have now been reported in two towns since the outbreak started in Juba last month.
In Juba, unicef says 29 people have already died of the disease. In Bor, the capital of Jonglei State, one person died and 28 cases were recorded as of yesterday.
Kajo-Keji County Commissioner, Henry Kala Sabuni, says the infected people are receiving treatment at the main hospital in the area.
He says health partners are raising awareness on how to prevent the disease from spreading.
“They have gone on radio and informed the people about the outbreak of the cholera and they are also educating the public in Wudu,” Mr Sabuni said.
Wudu is a trading center in the county. The first cases of the epidemic were recorded there.
Cholera is caused by eating or drinking contaminated food or water. It be prevented by maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation.
