Cholera cases are on the increase in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State, Medicines Sans Frontiers has said.
The Head of MSF Mission in South Sudan, Brian Moller, told Eye Radio that the cases are increasing because of the movement of people from one area to another.
“An average we are receiving is around 30 cases per day,” said Mr Moller.
“So far at M-S-F Cholera Treatment Center, we have treated 1,101 cease this week.”
About 16 people have died of the waterborne disease in the area.
It broke out in the state, forcing the authorities to close down schools in an effort to curb its spread.
Ambulance
The ministry of health has given one ambulance to Eastern Equatoria State to help facilitate response to cholera outbreak in remote areas.
The ambulance was handed over to the state ministry of health in Torit yesterday.
Eastern Equatoria State Minister of Health, Dr. Margret Itto, said the ambulance will help them access the areas that are impassable during the rainy season.
