Chabur to resign after fraud claims

The President of the national Football Association, who has been suspended over allegations of financial fraud, has said he will hand over the position to the acting chairman and face any accountability procedures.

The board of directors has accused Mr Chabur Goc of transferring some $400,000 to private accounts without consultation.

It suspended Chabur and called for an investigation. For now, all withdrawals from the account of the association have been suspended.

Mr Chabur was also accused of using his forex bureau to exchange hard currency of the association at low rate.

He now says he will return to Juba and face accountability procedures.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, addressed to members of the board, Mr Chabur described as great, the decision of the board to suspend him and call for an investigation.

He wished that all the partners of the association, including FIFA, would accept the resolution, which was reached in his absence.

Mr Chabur said he would inform his former deputy, Andrea Abdulla, who is now the acting chairman, on the day of his arrival in Juba to officially hand over all the assets of the association.

He said he would remain in the country for any accountability procedures.

Mr Chabur also said he took the decision because his family and private business require total calmness, saying it was difficult for his family to see him being, many times, in the media in the 5 years of his tenure.

He said he is longer in the association anymore and said there would be a smooth transitional period.
