CES increases teachers’ salaries

The Ministry of Education in Central Equatoria State says it intends to increase the allowances of teachers to improve the quality of learning in the state.

The ministry is developing mechanisms for increasing allowance for the teaching staff, said CES Minister of Education, Hastin Yokwe.

Mr. Yokwe told Eye Radio CES Council of Ministers has approved the payment of allowances for the teachers.

“We’ve added standing allowances, hardship allowances and dressing allowances .

However, Mr Yokwe said they have ‘good intention increasing teachers’ salaries but problems always prevents us from implementing our plans’.

The State Acting Minister of Information, David Lokonga also said chalk allowances including other allowances for teachers will be paid.

“It has been resolved that out of the four types of allowance, the chalk allowance will be paid together with February salaries and it will be paid by committee to screen the number of teachers and the dressing allowance which are paid yearly, this one will be paid in June,” he said.

“At least 1,000 SSP will be paid for each teacher, and this will be prepared immediately.

“And indeed housing allowances: it has been observed that all the staff that are working in the Government of Central Equatoria State are due for that. ”

Mr. Lokonga said that that the chalk allowance for January will be paid as arrears.
