CDC dispels Aweil Ebola rumors

A mysterious hemorrhagic disease that broke out recently in some parts of the country is not Ebola, the Center for Disease Control has said.

The symptoms of the mysterious disease include bleeding, fever, and vomiting among others, which are similar to those of Ebola.

The World Health Organization says test samples of blood from victims are being examined to establish the actual disease, but all tests came negative for Ebola.

The WHO recently reported 45 cases and at least 10 deaths from the disease in Aweil North, and Aweil West.

In a statement to the IRIN, a humanitarian website, a doctor with the US Center for Disease Control said lab results are not consistent with the symptoms of the disease and that is what is concerning.

In a separate development, the World Health Organization says 33 blood samples have been shipped to the WHO laboratories in Uganda, Senegal, and South Africa.

It says five turned up positive for onyong-nyong, three for chikungunya, and one for dengue fevers, but none was positive for Ebola
