Teachers marking P8 exams protest partial allowances
The teachers started marking the exams from the Multi-purpose Training Center [MTC] in Juba last week.
The exercise is expected to conclude by end of this week.
According to the arrangements, each marker is entitled to 78,000SSP as payment for the work and weekly-35,000 pounds for their living expenses.
But the transport and feeding allowances were reduced to 20,000 pounds this week.
One of the teachers who spoke to Eye Radio on condition of anonymity blamed the supervisors for deducting their money.
“The Secretary General of the examination council and deputy minister of education told us that each and every person will be given 35 000 per week for transport and launch and other expenses, and then 78,000 for the work we have been doing,
“So from today [Tuesday], they just came and decided to cut away 15,000 for this week and said we going to receive only 20,0000, yet the work is still going on.”
Fox, not his real name, warned that should the marking delays, they are not to blame.
“We decided not to go for marking. If the work is delayed, the problem will not be from us the markers, but the people who are supersizing us here in the center,” the teacher warned.stud
