The Council of Ministers has approved a new framework to manage deportees and returnees arriving in the country and endorsed the National Labour Migration Policy.

The decisions were made during the regular Cabinet meeting on Friday, chaired by President Salva Kiir.

Interior Minister Gen. Aleu Ayieny Aleu presented the framework. It provides a coordinated system for receiving deportees and returnees through official entry points and transit centres.

The framework aims to improve registration, temporary accommodation, humanitarian assistance, and onward transportation for South Sudanese and foreign nationals who need support.

Labour Minister Anthony Lino Makana presented the National Labour Migration Policy.

It seeks to strengthen labour migration management, protect the rights of migrant workers, promote skills transfer, and increase the contribution of labour migration to the national economy.

In a separate briefing, the Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reforms reported improved non-oil revenue collection, attributing the gains to ongoing reforms in revenue mobilisation and public financial management.

South Sudan has in recent months received increasing numbers of deported and returning nationals from neighbouring countries and overseas, many arriving without adequate documentation or resources.

According to the government, the new framework is intended to improve coordination among state institutions and partners to ensure a more organised reception and reintegration process for returnees.
