South Sudan Football Association says the government will provide a private plane to bring home the national team – from Khartoum late in the afternoon after they missed a Monday morning flight to Juba.

Michael Daniel, the chairman of the national team committee at the national football-governing body said the situation comes as the result of a lack of proper coordination from the team.

He said the team booked a morning flight by Budr airline, but the team arrived late at the airport.

“Actually the team is supposed to return home this morning at 7 AM but because of a mistake and lack of coordinating from the team they arrived late to the airport,” said Daniel.

Despite failing to win the trophy, the youngsters made history by reaching the final alongside Uganda in the CECAFA zonal qualifier that concluded in Sudan.

Bright Stars goalkeeper Godwill Sabio was declared the Best Player of the recently concluded CECAFA Zonal Championship in Sudan.

Both South Sudan and Uganda have also qualified for AFCON 2023 in Egypt in March.

When they were to return home on Monday morning, the team missed their flight.

However, Daniel revealed that the national minister of youth and sports is working hard to make sure that the team is brought back home late in the afternoon.

“They got the checking process closed but they will arrive at 3 PM because there are efforts by the minister of youth and sport right now the plane may take off from there at 1 PM and they will arrive here at 3 PM …”
