Bor women protest against ‘administrative weakness’

Hundreds of women protested yesterday in Bor, claiming there is corruption and administrative weakness in Jonglei state government.

One of the protestors told Eye Radio that the state government has ‘failed to control insecurity, rape and sexual abuse by public officials’.

They handed over their petition to the deputy governor, calling for replacement of Governor John Koang.

However, the state minister of information, Judi Jonglei, has denied the allegations, saying the demonstration was politically motivated.

“They didn’t tell you the truth. The truth is, they wrote a letter that they don’t agree with the local transfer of the ministry of finance. They didn’t agree. May be they are related to him or whatever,” Mr Jonglei said.

“Jonglei State is normal. Nothing called insecurity at the moment except the counties that have no access for the government to go but other counties are normal. No any insecurity. No rape. No corruption.”

The women say they will resume the protests today.
