Bad roads cut off Tonj North

The Commissioner of Tonj-north in Warrap says the County may be cut off from the rest of the state due to bad roads.

The road has been destroyed by heavy trucks and heavy downpour.

William Wol told Eye Radio that the movement of vehicles between Tonj-North and other towns will be difficult.

Tonj lies approximately 150km, northwest of Rumbek and around 100km, southeast of Wau, the state capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal.

Traders from the area usually get goods from Juba through Lakes state. With bad road conditions, market supplies are running low.

“We are fearing that when heavy rain comes in the month of August to September, the road will be very bad and it will also stop movements of big trucks,” said Mr Wol.

He said internal roads in the area have not been maintained for many years.
