Authorities in Likuangole County say an attack allegedly carried out by the White Army in Wuno has left two people dead and six others injured with thousands of people displaced.

The Information Minister of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, Jacob Werchum, said the attackers also made away with 312 heads of cattle, which were driven towards Uror County in Jonglei State.

He said local youth are pursuing the attackers in an effort to recover the stolen cattle.

Werchum called on the national government to urgently intervene and support forces on the ground to safeguard civilians and their property.

“The government of Greater Pibor Administrative Area is deeply disappointed by the attacks that occurred in Wuno, in Likuangole County, over the weekend by the White Army from Uror County, Jonglei State,” he said.

“The attacks have resulted in the deaths of two people and the injuries of six others and displacing 19,200 families in the area.”

He added that the attackers stole cattle and retreated towards Uror County, while local youth continue to pursue them in an attempt to recover the animals.

“We strongly condemn these acts of violence that have disrupted our communities and urge groups, particularly those with the aim of destruction, including organized criminal functions, to cease all forms of violence and work for peace,” he said.

“Such brutality undermines the spirit of peace and the unified effort to secure and maintain stability.”
