Central Equatoria

Members of the Teachers Professional Union in Central Equatoria State are disappointed with the State government for not giving them their allowances this year.
Teachers in Central Equatoria State had been told by the State government that they were to receive chalk and housing allowance in January this year.
The Chairperson of the union, Peter Lodu Tombe described the promise of the allowances as rumors.
“Rumors went out that the money was already approved. When the salary for January came, we were taken by surprised that what people said was not true”, he said.

Meanwhile, the State Minister of Education says currently the government is dealing with a number of emergencies.
Hastin Yokwe Anisio appealed for teachers to be patient.
“My message is an appeal to our teachers to recognize the current situation we were in, to recognize the current efforts of the Government in prioritizing peace and stability, and to recognize that within the same context, we are still to see that we get something, not only to the teachers but for every public servant that is working for Government.” he said.

The Minister has promised the teachers that he will table this issue to the State council of ministers for further deliberations.
 Views of teachers in Juba:
“How can one up to today, in this year 2014 a teacher sustain life in this very expensive town called Juba, with a monthly salary of 300 South Sudanese Pounds or less? Of course the morale of the teacher will not be high, he will not be teaching with the faith, he will not be teaching professionally and at the end nation building stands on the teachers”

“They are trying to convince us that the good thing is coming, but it cannot happen. Because our leaders are not taking care of us.”
