Anti-malaria drugs have been sent to Gogrial East County hospital by the Warrap State Minister of Health.

Eye Radio had reported that Warrap state had seen a sharp increase in malaria cases, with over two hundred new patients admitted to the hospital weekly.

The County Commissioner Akot Lual Akot said that although the medicine is helpful, it is still not enough to cover all those suffering from malaria.  He said the hospital is forced to tell people to get their drugs elsewhere.

“At the hospital they are treated in the wards, and also they are giving (a) diagnosis.  Then the send them to the market, for those people who have the capacity to buy,” he said. “But for those who cannot get the drugs in the market, they are still waiting for the government drugs.”

He also praised the work of the nurses and doctor as the hospital.

“Yesterday I visited the hospital but the number is still increasing, but they are trying their level best, “he told Eye Radio.

Mister Akot also said some NGOs have arrived in the area to carry out an assessment.

Meanwhile, the Warrap’s State Minister of Health, Doctor Agai Akec said that a request has been made to the National Ministry of Health for drugs for fifty thousand people. He said they are trying to fight the increased malaria cases

“We are doing the spraying in the town using insecticide sprays in the household,” he told Eye Radio.  “(We) started in Kwajock town here, and eventually we will go to the resettlement areas.”

Doctor Akec said if the drugs are supplied, they will arrive in one week’s time.
