MPs representing the Akobo- Anyuak in Jonglei State Legislative Assembly have called on the president to form a state that will contain all members of the kingdom.

According to the newly created states, indigenous people of the Anyuak Kingdom will belong to the Eastern Bieh and Boma States.

One of the MPs, Barnaba Okuony says they have written to the state governor to forward their petition to the president.

He says the move is in consultation with the members of the Anyuak community.

“We went to the Governor of Jonglei state because we don’t want to write to president without him. …we shared the concern with him that the Anyuak, they came out very clearly that they don’t want to be divided,” Mr. Okuony said.

“He said that it is good. He will pass concern, the position paper to His Excellency the president of the Republic of South Sudan.”

Another MP, Stephen Ogut says the division will cause disunity among the member of the Anyuak community.

“With the new state created, we will be marginalized and we will be defeated in both; if something is to be voted,” he said.

“And; we will not be able to compete with these people who are majority.”

President Salva Kiir issued a decree two weeks ago sub-diving the ten states into 28.

He gave 30 days for their formation of the states immediately after the announcement.
