Many NGOs have returned to Raja after improvement of security situation in the area, Lol State Minister of Information has said.

In June, an armed group targeted houses of government officials, forcing them and civilians to leave the area.

Angelo Mawien told Eye Radio this morning that residents are now going about their normal business.

“People in this state are doing their normal businesses, and so I can say the surrounding areas in Raja are also peaceful,” Mr Mawien said.

The attack which occurred in mid-June reportedly resulted in a brief capture of the state capital by the gunmen.

Senior government officials, including Governor Rizik Zechariah Hassan, fled the town for their safety.

However, several officers were killed including the governor’s bodyguards were killed.
