Actor Ger Duany appointed UNHCR ambassador

A former South Sudanese lost boy and Hollywood actor has been appointed as a goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR.

Ger Duany now becomes the voice and face for refugees.

“To be appointed as an ambassador, I think it is to give to my people hope that other people around the world are really listening and that’s what I am always telling them: people are hearing your cry,” said Duany.

“We only hope that peace has to come from the people. It doesn’t really come from somewhere else. Peace has to be within the people and has to be encouraged.”

Duany made his debut as an actor in the 2004 philosophical comedy film, I Heart Huckabees, in which he played a refugee called Stephen Nimieri.

As a model, he has appeared on the cover of numerous magazines such as Heed, Bleu Magazine, Numéro.
