The Acting Spokesperson of UNMISS says 100 Chinese peacekeepers have left South Sudan over the weekend.

Joseph Contreras says they were replaced by another group of 100 peacekeepers who arrived last month.

“We have had over 300 Chinese peace keepers based in Wau and Western Bahr El Ghazal. And periodically, their ranks are rotated. New peace keepers come in and some of these peace keepers go back home.” Contreras said.

He said there are 10,500 military UN peace keepers in South Sudan. The UN Security Council has approved 12,500 for UNMISS.
