The Charge de Affairs in the US embassy in Juba says donors do not see a possibility of carrying out general elections next year.
Ambassador Charles Haile Twining says the time is too short to prepare for the vote.
“We and the other donors, as we look at the possibility of elections, truly do not see how an election can be prepared in such a short period of time. The constitution calls for a census before elections.” He said.
“There is so much that needs to be done. There is also the insecurity in the country. Can everyone have the access to the ballot box?.” He added.
The government says it can postpone the next elections only if a peace agreement is reached with the SPLM in Opposition within the next few months.
