South Sudan has been ranked as one of the worst countries in the world in the ease of doing business.

Out of 189 countries ranked by the World Bank this year, South Sudan is in position 187, just above Libya and Eritrea.

The ease of doing business means the environment is conducive for starting up a business and for local entrepreneurs to operate.

A high ease of doing business ranking means the regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of a local firm.

The rankings are determined by sorting the aggregate distance to frontier scores on 10 topics, each consisting of several indicators, giving equal weight to each topic.

The chairman of Engineering Council of South Sudan, Jimmy Araba Parata, says this position in the ranking is disappointing.

Mr Araba has taken the opportunity to urge all engineers in South Sudan to register to legalize their work in the field of engineering.
