Fighting erupts in Pariang

Author : | Published: Sunday, August 9, 2015

Heavy fighting erupted on Saturday between government and the SPLA-In opposition in Pariang County, Unity State.

The clashes came three days after the resumption of the 4th round of peace talks in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Spokesperson Colonel Philip Aguer says forces loyal to Gen Johnson Olony and the SPLA-In opposition merged and attacked the government position.

“That place was attacked by forces of Johnson Olony and Riek Machar, and the fighting continued from morning up to mid-day,” Col Aguer said.

“By afternoon, the attackers were repelled and the SPLA is controlling the area.”

Col. Aguer said details of the casualties are unclear. Efforts to reach the SPLA-In opposition for comment were unsuccessful.
