Yambio: Red Cross conducts fresh registration of IDPs

The South Sudan Red Cross Society is conducting a fresh registration of internally displaced people in Yambio, Western Equatoria State.

The IDPs fled conflict in Maridi County where youth clashed with cattle keepers last month.

Last week, some IDPs complained that local residents of Yambio were the beneficiaries of non-food items distributed by the state government.

The basins, soaps and water guards were intended for the displaced people.

The Branch Director of South Sudan Red Cross in Yambio, Allison Martin, says the registration is meant to screen the residents from the IDPS.

“If we find that they are not from the affected areas, we will not support them,” Mr Martin warned.

“We want to support only those who are affected – those who came here because of the two incidents mentioned.”
