China is raising S. Sudan profile, says President Kiir

President Salva Kiir has praised China for its developmental role in  South Sudan he says is raising the country’s profile and that the two countries will remain long-term friends.

Kiir made the remark after the government and a Chinese company on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding in South Africa on the construction of a dry port at the border town of Nimule.

South Sudan’s Transport Minister Madut Biar signed the deal on behalf of the government.

The Chinese Communication Construction Company will also build a Presidential terminal at Juba International Airport, an Apron, and an air traffic management system.

“We have to thank you that what you are doing is raising the profile of South Sudan. We will remain long-time friends and I want you to do your utmost to complete the subjects that are given to you,” he said on the state-own TV, SSBC Wednesday evening.

Kiir told the Chinese to complete all the projects that were given to them in Juba and South Sudan in general adding that the government is happy with them.

“I thank you for your concerted efforts on what you are doing in Juba and South Sudan in general and we are happy with you,” he added.

Wang Tonzhou, the Chairman of China Communication Construction Company said his country is ready to expand the bilateral ties with South Sudan.
