About 9,000 IDPs need relief aid in Terekeka

The internally displaced persons in Terekeka County, Central Equatoria, are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, the Commissioner has said.

Jacob Gore said most of the people living in swampy areas are without food and proper medication.

He told Eye Radio that the IDPs have stayed for months without assistance from the government.

There are nearly 9,000 IDPs in the area. Most of them fled violence in Jonglei and Upper Nile.

“Their situation is that the medicines are not enough, and most of them are drinking directly from the Nile River, and this is causing a lot of sickness,” he asserted.

Commissioner Gore urged the national government to respond to the needs of the IDPs.
