7th round of peace talks expected to commence today

The government delegation to the South Sudan Peace talks is in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa for the seventh round of the negotiations. They arrived last night.

The spokesperson of the delegation, Michael Makuei Lueth, said the phase one of the seventh round of the talks will start this morning.

He says the session will focus on security and economic arrangements.

“We are going to look at the security, economic arrangements. These are the two things we didn’t look at in the last time phase,” Mr Makuei told Eye Radio’s Alhadi Hawari in Addis Ababa.

Mr Makuei further said participation of the different stakeholders in the negotiations is a major obstacle, which he says is impeding the peace process.

“But those or the other parties who joined the talks or the stakeholders they are the ones who brought all these complications in the peace talks process,” he stated.

“But we are hoping that if we start like we began in last time, we can bring peace.”

IGAD mediation team says the official opening of the phase one of the seventh round of the talks will start today after separate meetings of the envoys with the leaders of the different delegations.
